The Power of Intuition: The Solar Plexus Chakra and the Energy of Knowing

Intuition is often described as a gut feeling, an inner knowing that transcends logic and reason. It’s the quiet voice that whispers when something doesn’t feel right, the nudge that guides us toward a decision even when we lack concrete evidence. I would like to explore intuition as an integral aspect of the solar plexus chakra, also known as the third chakra. This energy center governs our sense of personal power, self-esteem, and the ability to trust our instincts.

Located in the upper abdomen, just above the navel, the solar plexus chakra (Manipura in Sanskrit) is associated with personal identity, willpower, and autonomy. I like to describe this chakra as the center of self the energetic core where our beliefs about ourselves take shape. It is also the place where intuition becomes deeply personal, guiding us through the choices and challenges of life.

Unlike the intuitive insights of the third-eye chakra, which are more visionary and expansive, the intuition of the solar plexus is rooted in direct experience and immediate awareness. It is visceral and bodily often manifesting as a clench in the stomach, a sudden wave of anxiety, or a deep sense of certainty. When this chakra is balanced, we feel confident in our ability to navigate life, trusting our inner compass. When it is blocked, we may struggle with doubt, insecurity, and a reliance on external validation. Intuition is not a mystical phenomenon but an essential survival skill. Our bodies are constantly processing information beyond conscious awareness. The solar plexus, rich with nerve endings and connected to the enteric nervous system (sometimes called the second brain), picks up on subtle energies and emotional cues.

For example, have you ever walked into a room and immediately sensed tension before anyone spoke? Or met someone and instantly felt at ease or wary without knowing why? These intuitive hits come from the solar plexus chakra’s ability to read energy and respond accordingly. In many ways, this gut knowing is an evolutionary advantage, helping us assess situations and protect ourselves from harm.

When the solar plexus chakra is imbalanced, intuition can become clouded. Doubt, fear, and the habit of seeking approval from others can weaken our ability to trust ourselves. Many people struggle with this because societal conditioning teaches us to prioritize logic over intuition and external authority over inner wisdom.

A blocked or deficient solar plexus chakra may manifest as:

  • Indecisiveness: Struggling to make decisions without external input.

  • Self-doubt: Ignoring gut feelings and overanalyzing situations.

  • Fear of failure: Hesitating to take risks, even when the inner voice encourages action.

  • People-pleasing: Seeking validation from others instead of trusting personal instincts.

Conversely, an overactive solar plexus chakra can lead to arrogance, control issues, and a refusal to acknowledge mistakes because the person becomes so convinced of their own knowing that they dismiss other perspectives.

To strengthen the solar plexus chakra and deepen intuitive trust, I would suggest practices that cultivate confidence and self-awareness:

  1. Body Awareness: Since solar plexus intuition is felt physically, paying attention to gut sensations can sharpen intuitive perception. Practices like yoga, breath work, and abdominal massage can help awaken this center.

  2. Trusting Small Decisions: Strengthening intuition starts with everyday choices. Instead of overthinking, practice listening to gut instincts on minor matters, such as choosing what to eat or which route to take.

  3. Journaling & Self-Reflection: Writing about past intuitive experiences when following or ignoring intuition led to certain outcomes can reinforce the validity of inner knowing.

  4. Energy Work & Meditation: Energy imbalances can distort intuition. Visualizing a bright yellow light at the solar plexus, chanting the mantra Ram, or using affirmations like I trust myself can restore energetic balance.

  5. Setting Boundaries: Personal power is closely linked to intuition. When we say yes to things that don’t feel right or allow others to manipulate us, we weaken our inner knowing. Strengthening the solar plexus means standing firm in personal truth.

When fully activated, the solar plexus chakra allows us to move through life with clarity and conviction. We no longer second-guess ourselves or rely on external validation. Instead, we cultivate an unshakable trust in our own wisdom. The transition from seeking answers outside of ourselves to recognizing that the deepest truths are already within.

Intuition, as an aspect of the solar plexus chakra, is the foundation of authentic personal power. It is the ability to know without needing proof, to feel truth in the body before the mind catches up. When we honor this gift, we step into a life guided not by fear or doubt, but by the quiet, undeniable certainty of our own inner wisdom.
